Confirmed: these Galaxy AI features are coming to last-gen Samsung phones soon

Samsung has recently unveiled its new Galaxy S24 series of smartphones, which come with a host of innovative features powered by Galaxy AI, Samsung’s new mobile AI platform.

Galaxy AI uses onboard and cloud technology to make meaningful recommendations to Galaxy users, such as Circle To Search, Live Translate, Note Assist, Photo Assist, and more.

But what if you own a Galaxy S23 phone, or one of the last year’s foldable devices, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 5 or the Galaxy Z Flip 5? Will you be able to enjoy these Galaxy AI features as well, or will you have to upgrade to the latest models?

Well, we have some good news for you. Samsung has confirmed that a selection of its new Galaxy AI features will be coming to Galaxy S23 phones and last year’s foldable “within the first half of the year”, according to an exclusive interview with TechRadar following Galaxy Unpacked 2024.

And now, we know exactly which features will be making the jump across generations.

As spotted by X user Tarun Vats (via SamMobile), Samsung has listed Circle To Search, Live Translate, Note Assist, and Photo Assist as features that are ‘coming soon’ to the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra on its official website.

We expect that these features will be available on the standard Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5, too.

Conversely, no such messaging appears next to the Galaxy S22 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy A54, or Galaxy A34 on Samsung’s website, which more or less confirms that none of these phones (nor any phones in their respective lines) will be getting Galaxy AI features any time soon, if ever.

So, what do these features do, exactly? Well, let’s take a look at each one of them in detail.

Circle To Search

Circle To Search is essentially an enhanced version of Google Lens; it lets you search Google for objects using nothing but your fingertip (or an S Pen) and your phone’s home button.

While scrolling or watching videos, you can circle items and get Google Search results. For example, if you see a photo of a plant that you like, you can circle it and get information about its name, care, and availability.

You can also circle text, QR codes, barcodes, and more to get relevant results. This feature is very handy when you want to satisfy your curiosity on the spot, without leaving your feed.

Live Translate

Live Translate allows for real-time, two-way voice and text translations of phone calls within the native Samsung Phone app.

This feature is very helpful when you need to communicate with someone who doesn’t speak your language (and vice versa). You can choose from over 50 languages and dialects, and the app will automatically detect the language of the caller and translate it for you.

You can also see the transcript of the conversation on the screen, and switch between voice and text mode as you prefer. Live Translate works with both regular and VoIP calls, and it also supports group calls with up to five participants.

Note Assist

Note Assist makes a long story short. It uses AI to summarize Samsung Notes text into easy-to-read templates. You can simply start writing and AI will format your notes into a clear, easy-to-review summary.

You can also choose from different templates, such as bullet points, lists, tables, charts, and more. Note Assist can also extract key information from your notes, such as dates, times, locations, contacts, and events, and create reminders or calendar entries for you.

Note Assist is a great feature for students, professionals, and anyone who wants to organize their notes and save time.

Photo Assist

Photo Assist lets you adjust the angle of images and fill the resulting blank space with Generative AI content that matches the scene. For example, if you take a photo of a building and want to change the perspective, you can use Photo Assist to tilt the image and fill the gaps with realistic details.

You can also use Photo Assist to resize, crop, rotate, and flip images, and apply filters and effects. Photo Assist is a powerful feature for photographers, designers, and anyone who wants to enhance their photos with AI.

We are very excited to see these Galaxy AI features coming to last-gen Samsung phones soon, and we can’t wait to try them out ourselves.

We think that these features will make a big difference in how we use our phones, and how we create, connect, and more. What do you think? Are you looking forward to these Galaxy AI features? Which one is your favorite? Let us know in the comments below!
