Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed that the incident involved a collision between a motorbike and a car, with the motorcyclist sustaining severe injuries. As a result, the motorcyclist has been transported to a hospital via air ambulance for urgent medical attention.

The South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust has issued an official statement regarding its response to the incident. They reported being alerted at 10:29 about the collision on the M5 near Bridgwater. 

Their rapid reaction entailed dispatching an air ambulance, a doctor, an operations officer, and two double-crewed land ambulances. One critically injured patient was transported via air ambulance to Southmead Hospital, emphasizing the severity of the incident.

National Highways has released real-time information on the traffic situation. They have advised that commuters should expect delays exceeding 60 minutes above the usual travel time on the northbound carriageway.

Managed Closure of the Southbound Carriageway:
